What is a Yahrzeit?
The anniversary of a death is called a yahrzeit. It's observed each year on the Hebrew date of death by reciting kaddish at synagogue and by lighting a memorial candle at home in memory of your loved one. The candle is lit at sundown the evening before the Hebrew yahrzeit date.
Yahrzeit Registration
The Jewish Community of Ojai offers a free yahrzeit registration service for our members. It only takes a minute to fill out the form. And don't worry about calculating the Hebrew yahrzeit date. During the registration process, the Hebrew date will be calculated for you with the click of a button.
Once your registration is completed, an email message will be sent to you a few weeks in advance to notify you that your loved one's yahrzeit date is approaching.

The name of your relative or friend will be spoken by the rabbi or religious leader on the Friday Shabbat service that is closest to the yahrzeit date.
